Shehla's blog made me remember this and I guess I didnt post about it, but it makes for some very interesting theories...
Recently we had to go to NY for the death of my great aunt Janet. We stayed in her house while there for the funeral. I was unhappy to find that we were actually sleeping in her room, but just because it felt weird. The 1st morning, Big Ray wakes up and at breakfast asks if Aunt Janet had cats. No, she didnt. At one point in her life she started feeding a white cat on the back porch but it was never allowed in the house. The dream he described to me was disturbing and we never shared it with anyone else. This conversation and his initial question took place outside of RayRay's hearing.
That same night, as I was putting RayRay to sleep (in our/Janet's room) we are laying on the bed and he pops up and is looking at the wall very close to the bed. I ask him what he's looking at. He replies "the kitty cat, it came out of the wall." (huh!)
I see nothing, not even a peculiar shadow. I asked him what color it was and he says "black". I let it go. I didnt want to freak him out. But I couldnt help myself and a few minutes later (maybe 5) I asked him if it was still there. He pops his head up and looks at the same place and says yes. So I asked him what it was doing "Looking at us."
Shortly after this, he tells me he doesnt like this room, it scares him and he wants to go downstairs. (a little house history. My Aunt's house was built in 1890 and has had a few layout changes upstairs. I found that behind the wall was the entrance to the attic which is now accessed from the hallway and 2 rooms were made in to one big room so this is probably where the old door was.)
We go downstairs for a little bit and on the way stop at moms room. He tells mom (No prompting) that the room was scaring him. I asked him if moms room scared him and he looked around and says no. About 30-45 minutes later, we tried again to put him to bed. This time he falls asleep. We never have a conversation about the cat amongst ourselves that he can hear (I dont want to scare him) but I tell my father about it (He's my aunt's executor). We also find out that my uncle had his heart attack and passed away in the bedroom. A few days after we got back, I asked him about the cat and he repeated that it came out of the wall and then tells me that the room scared him. I asked what scared him and he didnt answer. After a few prompts, I decided to offer some options (I hate to lead like that but I was interested in his answer) so I asked if it was the cat or the dark or the people. He says "the people" and goes right on playing with his bath toys. Thats the last conversation weve had about the cat or the trip to aunt janet's.
If you ask him about the cat at Aunt Janet's house, he will tell you exactly the same details, that it was a black kitty cat that came out of the wall. He doesnt embellish or omit anything. And he will tell you that the room scared him. What makes this even stranger is that Ray, at that point, had not really started being imaginitive. Even now, his imagination sticks to real world things like catching a fish or hopping like a frog. He knows (because I asked in the "isnt that silly" conversation) that things cant go through walls. He pretends to call grandma on the phone and drive his car places (yes, upon our return, he did "drive" to aunt Janet's waving goodbye to us all and going around the yard once)
Anything like this ever happen to any of you with children???
Yes. I remember when I went with my sister to pick up my niece from daycare one day--she was about 3. We got in the car and my sister said "So did you have fun today?" And she said "Yes, I played." So then my sister says "Who did you play with today?" And she answered "Grandma Ellen." Well, my Great-Grandma Ellen died when I was two years old, my niece never met her and she isn't someone we spoke about often. So it was kinda freaky. It was very uncomfortable.
ReplyDeleteI've never had anything like that happen. But my Gran (great Gran) died in her bed in my moms house when I was 18. My mom still has her whole bedroom set, just set up in a different room (since no one would sleep in the bed/room while set up how she died). When we go to my moms her bed is where I sleep. My girls won't sleep in the bed, only on the floor next to it (just like I use to do when she was alive -and they don't even know that that's her old "room"), Ted won't sleep in the bed either (he knows). I believe I'm the only one to ever sleep there since she's passed and I'll tell you I look forward to going there because I get the BEST sleep ever!!!
ReplyDeleteAside from Hunter's monsters, and I did lead him with my questions because I don't want to ever hear how he's afraid, we haven't had anything yet. But we haven't visited anyone in a long time. I always slept in my Nan's bed after she pass on. I felt close to her and not creeped out and they were my best nights' sleep as well.
ReplyDeleteChildren are the best at picking up on our body language, tone, etc. The next best are con artists.
ReplyDeleteI had that happen to ME as a child. I saw my Nana when I was in middle school. She came out of my closet, put her hand on my head and said I would be fine. She passed when I was 1 or 2. I had been sick with my yearly bout of strep throat and had a high fever. The fever broke that night. I wasn't scared though, which is so unlike me. Katelynn may see things because she tells me people whisper in her ear at night, but she could just be dreaming? It would freak me out too much to prompt her and find out more!
ReplyDeleteI didnt feel scared, kind of amazed maybe. I know I saw something when I was 11 or 12. we had just moved to a new house and later I found out that the previous owner's wife had died in the house (natural causes related to her advanced age) and the husband had died shortly after. The family says they were very much in love and they think he died of a broken heart. It was poignant. I found all of this out after I had someone standing over my bed one night. I woke up and saw them there at the foot. I thought it was my brother (he used to come in to talk sometimes if he was having angst over something) but then 'They' just faded away. There-gone. Whoa.
ReplyDeleteShehla... I'm worried about the con artist thought... I hope I'm not in that catagory (or rayray maybe?? (heehee)
ReplyDeletewow! can honestly say I've never had anything like that happen! Megan says some strange stuff, but I think it's all completely pretend.
ReplyDeleteThat is so interesting Amy- I do think at times alex "sees" things I do not. Random waiving of byebye when we are going to bed, when he was a little younger, now I know he just likes to do it. But before he would look up, and say it.. I always thought it was his grandparents. My family and I have had interesting things happen to us, dreams occurences, I believe it can happen and does.
ReplyDeletewanted to clarify what I said above; I think what *Megan* says is completely pretend! Not trying to discount what you guys were saying... Sorry!
